First ever Rhizome festival kick-started

Rural Auxiliary For People's Action (RAPA), Lamding in collaboration with State A YUSH Society, Directorate of AYUSH Manipur, organised the first ever Rhizome festival of the State, under the sponsorship of MIDS, Horticulture and Soil Conservation.
The three-days long festival kicked off at Ningtam Ingkhol, Tekcham Maning Ching, Thoubal district today.
The festival aims to promote and preserve the indigenous medicinal plants which are found underground.
The inaugural ceremony of the Rhizome festival was attended by Health Minister L Jayentakumar as chief guest, MLA of Wangjing Tentha AC, Paonam Brojen as functional president, AYUSH Director, Dr A Guneshwor Sharma, Additional Director, Dr Y Lukhoi, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Thoubal officer Th Birendra and Korouhanba Spices Industry managing director P Kulachandra as guests of honour.
After inaugurating the festival, L Jayentakumar along with other dignitaries visited the stalls set up for the festival.
The stalls exhibited numerous varieties of indigenous plants including Kanghu, Yai Amuba, Yai Angouba, Haa, Khutchappi, Tekhao Yaikhu etc.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister motivated all the farmer's/ individuals to utilize the unused lands in the hills for sericulture farming so that their incomes are doubled and the State's economy is improved at large.
He lamented the ignorance of today's generation towards the benefits and uses of these indigenous medicinal plants.
The Minister further urged all the people as well as the farmers to work collectively towards improving the economy of the State.
