Imphal, January 17 2018:
The JAC for Affected People of Chingmeirong Nongpok and Kontha Ahallup has appealed to the State Government to refrain from acquiring the lands of 6 Kontha Ahalup, 9 Chingmeirong East and 10 Meitei Kairang of Imphal for any kind of developmental projects.
A press release issued by the general secretary of the JAC stated that during the last few days, the JAC came to know of the Government's plan to acquire the said lands for some projects.
It alleged that the people will suffer mentally, physically and economically because of the project and added that the proposed areas have been continuously affected by Government land acquisitions since 2005 .
It further claimed that in 2013, there was a mob violence due to land acquisition move by the RBI and around 60 people were locked up in police custody while they were in the state of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
The JAC claimed that the land acquisition will adversely affect the religious sites of Madrasa registered with Wakf Board Manipur as well as the Idgah (site for annual festival congregation) and Kabarstan (burial site) .
The move will also affect the community halls and playgrounds as well as a umber of public ponds and the present and future Masjids.
Pointing out that there are many unutilised Government khasland where the projects can be taken up, the JAC conveyed that it is better for the Government to refrain from taking up any steps to acquire the land for any kind of projects as it will lead to immense hardships for the people.
