Red woods, drugs seized

Troops of 9 Assam Rifles under HQ 26 Sector, IGAR (S) have seized huge quanity of legal Red Sander woods while being smuggled to Myanmar via Moreh town today.
According to information received by Hueiyen Lanpao, based on specific intelligence report, troops of 9 Assam Rifles launched a search operation in general area of Moreh Ward no.2 today.
During the course of the operation, the AR personnel saw some persons moving towards the international border with heavy head loads .On being challenged, the persons abandoned the heavy loads behind the international border and managed to escape across the border (Myanmar side ) taking the advantages of the thick jungle along Indo- Myanmar border.
Further search of the area , led to recovery of illegal red sander wood weighing approx 2500 kg.
The cost of the recovered unclaimed Red Sander wood is approximately Rs 1.5.crores.
The recovered unclaimed Red Sander woods would be handed over to the office of Divisional Forest Officer, Tengnoupal Forest Division, Government of India for further proceedings , an Assam Rifles source said, adding that recovery of such large quanity of illegal Red Sander Wood would surely come as a severe blow to the persons involved in such illegal trade.
On the other hand, a team of Imphal East district police has reportedly seized a large quantity of narcotic pseudo ephedrine drugs worth around Rs 1.5 crores from Mantripukhri area in Imphal West district yesterday morning.
According to police source, the consignment of pseudo ephedrine hydrochloride and Cetirizine hydrochloride tablets was seized from a goods loaded truck bearing registration No.AS 01/DD/0957 around 11:30 pm while checking vehicles at Mantripukhri along National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road).
The truck was transporting the drugs packed in nine different cartons to Imphal from Guwahati.
The number of strips of the seized tablets was 4, 32, 000 and it would cost around Rs 1.30 crores in the local market.
Three persons including the driver and the handyman of the truck have been taken into custody in connection with the drugs seizure.
The driver has been identified as Md Warish Khan (23) and the handyman as Md Manjit(18).Both are residents of Hayel Loubuk Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district.
They are said to be brothers.
The third man who was travelling in the truck along with them has been identified as Md Ithembi (32), also a resident of Hayel Loubuk Awang Leikai.
On further investigation, the arrested trio disclosed that they were asked to transport the drug consignment from Guwahati to Imphal by one Milan.
Heingang Police Station has filed an FIR case in connection with the seizure.
