Rajkumar Kishor appointed as IUCN panel member

Rajkumar Kishor of Sagolband Bijoygovind has been appointed by the species Survival Commission of International union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as a member of IUCN's Orchid specialist Group for the new quadriennium 2013-16.One of the IUCN's six volunteer commissions, Species Survival Commission is a global organisation for identifying and promoting actions necessary to stem the loss of the world's biological diversity through the combined effort of the Commission's broad membership comprising of scientists, field biologist and other professional.
sharing intimation from the Commission about his appointment to newspersons today, orchidologist RK Kishor stated that having accepted the appointment he would sustain the campaign with renewed vigour to conserve and protect various species of orchid throughout the country along with filing relevant reports till his tenure.

Observing that mega dam constructions had wiped out several orchid species in the country, he also confided that his focus would be on the destruction likely to be caused to orchids by the proposed Tipaimukh Dam.
As head of 'Kwaklei & Khonggunmelei Orchid', a research cum commercial venture on conservation and sustainable development of orchids, Kishor has so far published 20 research papers in journals of international and national reputes besides registering seven hybrid orchids with the Royal Horticultural Society, United Kingdom.
