Drugs worth Rs 1.3 cr seized

A large quantity of pseudo ephedrine tablets (Omkof) was seized by a patrol party of Imphal East district from near Mantripukhri NRL oil pump at about 11.30 am yesterday.
The drugs were being transported in a truck after concealing them under grocery items.
The pseudo ephedrine tablets were packed in nine car- tons and the total number of tablets was 4.32 lakhs.
However, police are still unable to identify owner of the seized drugs.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, Imphal East Additional SP K Rajen conceded they are yet to identify owner of the drug consignment.
Nonetheless, three people including driver, handyman and one passenger of the truck in which the drugs were concealed and transported have been pulled up.
The driver has been identified as Md Warish Khan (23) s/o Md Slaudin of Hayel Loubuk Mayai Leikai, and the handyman, his younger brother, Md Majid (18). Passenger of the truck who too has been pulled up is identified as Md Ithembi (32) s/o Ziauddin of Thoubal Hayel Loubuk.
The market value of the seized pseudo ephedrine tablets would be around Rs 1.30 crore, said the Additional SP.
He maintained that the apprehended people have not been questioned properly.

The tablets were loaded in the truck from an NRL oil pump at Guwahati by one Milan and they should have been taken up to Lilong, Rajen stated as conveyed by driver Md Warish Khan.
Though Milan was said to be from Thoubal Hayel Loubuk, police have not launched any search operation to nab the man.
As the spot where the tablets were intercepted and seized is under the jurisdiction of Heingang police station, an FIR case would be registered and it would be transferred to Heingang PS, Rajen said.
Meanwhile, a sit-in-protest was staged today at Mantripukhri under the aegis of Mantripukhri Lamlongei Apunba Nupi Chaokhat Lup demanding revival of the disbanded SIU and identification of the real owner of the huge consignment of drugs seized from Imphal airport on January 11. Notably, a police team led by Inspector Ranjit of the now disbanded SIU seized a huge consignment of drugs from Imphal airport.
Interestingly, SIU was disbanded on the same day.
