Cataract ops to go hi-tech

Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI) has been equipped with the latest machinery for conducting cataract operation with the formal installation of Torsional Phaco (INFINITI Platform) at a simple function held today at the auditorium of the private medical centre.
The inaugural function was held with Commissioner (H&FW) K Moses Chalai, SHRI chairman cum managing director Dr Kh palin and Manipur State Blindness Control Society's SPO Dr Rajnikanta as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Expressing that installation of the machine would benefit those requiring cataract operation, Moses Chalai said addition of the latest facility at Shija Hospitals is a boon for the people of Manipur.
In his address, Dr Palin stated that eyesight of patients requiring cataract operations could be restored through operation by the machine and subsequent use of contact lens.
Pointing out technical aspect of the machine's utility, he said an operation will last only about 10 minutes and the visibility restored after a few minute of the operation.
The machine is said to cost Rs 34 lakhs.
