Govt to take over Palace land

Imphal, June 22 2013 : Contrary to Government of Manipur's decision in 2006 for posses-sing 7.179 acres area of the Royal Palace, the state Cabinet today agreed in-principal to expand the land take-over size to 12-13 acres.

Sharing the Cabinet decision to media persons, Government spokesman M Okendro said that a meeting presided over by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh deliberated at length on plans to renovate historic structures of the Royal Palace so as to retain the glorious era of Manipur's existence as an independent nation.

The Cabinet endorsed necessary construction activities at the Royal Palace and adjacent areas in order to replenish the taste and decorum of Manipur being a kingdom.

It is said that against the previous decision of the Govt in 2006 to undertake renovation works at palace complex with no compromise on its original form today's Cabinet meeting agreed in principal to enlarge the Government land possession to 12-13 acres.

Among others renovation works would cover the Dar-bar hall, Rasmandal, the royal dome and all other structures closely associated with the erstwhile Manipur kingdom, informed Okendro, who is also the Minister for Education, CAF&PD.

For accommodation of the titular king during the renovation/construction activities a spot of choice within the Royal Palace would be refurbished for the king's lodging.

It also resolved not to intervene in customary and traditional rituals of the royal family, said the spokesman who informed that the govt is determined to develop the historic site into a tourist attraction along with preserving Manipur's rich cultural heritage.

Okendro also conveyed the CM's appeal to every section of the society for cooperation and contribution to the Government's endeavour.

The Cabinet also endorsed possession of land in the periphery of Singda Dam to develop the surrounding areas along with recommending amendment of guidelines issued by the Department of Personnel and Training in 2002 to redress procedural anomalies impeding promotion in Manipur police.

Moreover, the Cabinet decided to regularise service of 28 employees of Manipur Remote Sensing Application and set up a company to spur IT development projects.

On the otherhand, Education Minister Okendro informed that a formal order has been issued today to pave the way for conversion of Ramlal paul Higher Secondary School into a girls higher secondary.

It is also said that Congress MPs, Ministers and MLAs have decided to donate one month's salary as assistance to the flood-devastated State of Uttarakhand.
