Dimapur, November 18 2019:
The Joint Committee for Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) has announced an "all Nagaland shut-down" from 6 pm of November 19 to 12 noon of November 20 over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) .
As the CAB 2016 is to be tabled once again in this Winter session of Parliament, the North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP) had directed all federating State organisations to initiate a united agitation to oppose the passage of this 'genocidal Bill' .
According to the JCPI, once this contentious Bill becomes an Act it will forever change the demography of the entire North East States where the indigenous population will become minority in their own land like Tripura.
"Therefore, the Joint Committee for Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) has decided to go for an all Nagaland shut-down beginning from 6 pm of November 19 to 12 noon of November 20," a press release of the JCPI said.
JCPI "fervently" appealed all the citizens of Nagaland to extend their full cooperation and bear with the inconveniences by suspending all normal activities and engagements to give a collective message to the Government of India to withdraw the controversial CAB 2016 .
"All shops and business establishments are requested to voluntarily shut down as a sign of protest," it added.
