Imphal, February 07 2015 :
Dogs in some areas of Imphal East district like Heingang, Achanbigei, Kha-bam, Khabam Lamkhai and Koirengei have been infected by an unknown disease suspected to be distemper.
Although the disease could not be officially confirmed as distemper which is also known as canine viral disease, infected dogs have been showing symptoms similar to those of distemper.
One individual told The Sangai Express that he has been keeping two pet dogs (of Tangkhul Hui breed) and both the dogs have been infected by an unknown disease recently.
Some of the symptoms shown by these dogs are loss of appetite, frothing mouth, puking, presence of blood in dung and extreme weakness.

In the wake of the outbreak of rabies in Chura- chandpur district, the dogs were vaccinated against rabies.
But just after one month, the dogs were infected by an unknown disease, said the dog owner.
At Achanbigei Mayai Leikai, two out of six pups born recently died due to the unknown disease.
Moreover, the surviving four pups are also suffering from the same unknown disease.
According to a Veterinary doctor, all the symptoms shown by the infected dogs point to distemper, also known as canine viral disease.
Presence of blood in dung indicates that the health condition of the dog is worsen- ing.
If the condition further grows worse, the dog would die without any hope of recovery.
If a dog is suspected to be infected by distemper, a Veterinary doctor should be consulted immediately.
Canine viral disease is reported from different parts of India every year between December and April.
The first symptom of distemper infection is puking.
If any dog starts pucking, Veterinary doctors should be consulted immediately.
The disease is not related with anti-rabies vaccination of dogs, said the Veterinary doctor.
