Guwahati, April 06 2016:
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh lashed out at Narendra Modi, accusing him of fooling the masses ahead of the 2014 general elections.
Manmohan Singh critically remarked against Modi, calling his Government a failure in terms of handling the issue of black money and corruption.
He also questioned the foreign policies adopted by BJP regime to deal with neighbouring Nation Pakistan.
Addressing a rally in poll bound Assam, Manmohan said, "Modiji made a promise that he will bring back black money and Rs 15 lakh each will be deposited in every citizen's account.
What did he do after coming to power ? BJP Government miserably failed in fulfilling such a big promise made to people of India" .
"His foreign trips are presented as great achievements.
I want to ask what has that yielded for the Nation ? Everyone knows that the Nation has gained nothing substantial from his heavily promoted foreign tours," Manmohan added.
The veteran Congress leader adviced Modi to reconsider his policy towards Pakistan.
"This Government is clueless on that subject.
Their policy towards Pakistan has completely failed," he said.
Taking a jibe at Narendra Modi's skillful oratory, Manmohan went ahead to say, "There is a saying that 'One should deliver with his actions, rather than words.' However, Modi ji keeps forgetting this basic rule of life" .
During his ten-year rule as Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh was often mocked by the Opposition BJP for being a mute leader.
The difference in the personalities of the two leaders Modi loves making public appearances and is considered a powerful speaker, unlike Singh was presented by the BJP as one of its assets in the 2014 election.
Manmohan Singh is Rajya Sabha MP from Assam.
After a long time, he is seen campaigning in the elections.
During his tenure as the Prime Minister, he remained absent from the electoral battles.
Despite being a leader from the Sikh community, he could not alter his schedule to campaign in the Punjab Assembly elections of 2012 .
