Special Judge (POCSO) of Ukhrul, N Rajnikanta has remanded Grace Home, Jaipur administrator Jacob John to judicial custody till April 18 in the sexual assault of minor girls case.
Jacob was arrested from Dimapur on June 6, 2013 on the charge of sexually assaulting minor girl inmates of Grace Home, Jaipur.
The girls who belong to poor families of Nagaland and Manipur, mostly from Ukhrul district, were allegedly taken to the orphanage on the pretext of providing free education by the accused.
Jacob is presently lodged at Central Jail, Dimapur and he is undergoing trial at the Court of District and Sessions Judge, Dimapur under GR 13/13 under Section 344/346/363/376 IPC.
On April 4, Ukhrul police brought Jacob from Central Jail, Dimapur and produced him before the Court of Special Judge (POCSO), Ukhrul in compliance with an order passed by the same Court.
During the hearing, the Court observed that there is sufficient material evidence on record for proceeding with the trial of the case against Jacob John and co-accused Nganingmi Vashi.
As such, the Court remanded Jacob to judicial custody till April 18 .
