The historic first Indo-ASEAN car rally opening Eastern Corridors (Nongpok Thong Hangba) for co-operation and all round development has entered Tamu today at around at 7 pm after a short stop over at the last bordering town of Indo-Burma border town, Moreh.
With the motto "Peace, Harmony, Development & Friendship", the Indo-ASEAN Car Rally, participated by 62 International Leg Cars, 7 National Leg Cars and 9 State Leg cars reach Moreh at around 5.15 pm.
International Legs Cars were warmly welcome by the DC Cdl, ADC Moreh and leaders of different communities, with students from various schools of the town standing on both side of the roads from Moreh forest gate upto Gangam Lenton Ground, commonly known as Kut Ground, where all the participants were accorded warm welcome with traditional & cultural items of various communities before leaving for Tamu.
Chairman Rally Committee Rajat Majumdar told The Sangai Express that all the participants were given warm welcome by the people at each stop.
There was no instance or incident which could delay the Rally and reach Moreh safe and sound.
There was also no report of any health problems faced by the participants so far, he added.
Vignouchy, an assistant to the Director Dept of Adm & General Affairs, Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia, who is also a participants in the car rally said that it was his first visit to Manipur and India.
He said he was really excited to see Tamu and to experience the way of their (Burmese) life.
He also expressed his gratitude to the people for the warm welcome he received at Imphal and also thanked for the cultural shows at Moreh.
Stefan Dreyer Van Rooyen, a South African National and Chief Financial Officer of the Hong Kong-based SPARTAN MATRIX, one of the sponsors of the rally, said would look forward for a business tied up with different countries through this journey.
The participants of the National & State Legs were also warmly welcomed at the same ground after the International Legs left for Tamu with presentation of cultural & traditional items by Meiteis, Manipuri Muslims, Tamil & Thadou Kuki.
The National & State Legs will halt the night at the border town today.
Strict security arrangements have been taken up at the town to ensure security to the participants and for smooth conduct of the Car rally.
Six Platoons of BSF were deployed from Tengnoupal to Khongkhang, Leingangtabi to Lokchao, Moyol Khullen to Lamkhai and Khudengthabi to Moreh.
Whereas from Molnoi to Sinam by 3rd IRB Molnoi Post, Sinam to Tengnoupal by 8th MR Saivom Post.
