Imphal, November 24:
Manipur Human Rights Commission today issued a bailable warrant of arrest against a 34 year old man accused of being party to a girl abduction case.
The warrant is against one Ngathem Patyai Singh of Khabam Litan Makhong accused of being an accomplice of one L Bikram Singh (34) who abducted the girl back in June 14, 1996.The rights body handling the case passed the order for issuance of the arrest warrant as Patyai repeatedly declined MHRC notice to appear before it with his latest appearance date set for today at 11 am.
MHRC first served notice to Patyai on June 23 this year following a complaint petition filed by the victim's party demanding punitive action against Bikram and his accomplices.
As Patyai continued to avoid personal appearance before the MHRC, the rights panel headed by Chairperson Justice (retd) WA Shikshak, passed the order accusing him of delaying the case proceedings.
The warrant entails the Heigang police station OC to execute the order while also setting December 17 morning for Patyai to appear before it.
As already reported Bikram - a lecturer of Moirang College - had been charged of kidnapping a young girl ten years back and inspite of his father promising to marry his son with the said girl it did not materialise as Bikram eloped with another girl from Awang Sekmai and is set to tie the knot in the near future.
