Delhi police burst tear gas shells, used water cannons and caned Manipuri rallyists at the Capital on the opening day of the Parliament session today.
Several rallyists were injured, three of them seriously.
30 students were also arrested by the police.
The procession against the extension of NSCN (IM) ceasefire beyond Nagaland was organized jointly by the Manipur Students� Association, Delhi and Manipuri Residents Fraternity.
Students from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, besides representatives of AMSU, Eramdam Manipur Mothers� Association, United Peoples Action Committee and lawyers practicing in Delhi took part in the rally.
The slogans shouting rallyists numbering about one thousand broke the first police barricade and tried to cross the second barricade on the Parliament street on their march to reach the Parliament, the police burst several tear gas shells, resorted to water cannon, lathi charge etc.
in which several students and other participants were injured.
A seriously injured has been rushed to hospital.
The rallyists particularly the members of MSAD rushed forward and 30 of them and others were arrested and kept in police lock up.
Angry rallyists particularly women participants from Manipur burnt effigies of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Home Minister and MP�s emissary K Padmanabhaiah in front of the Parliament police station.
In a release the MSAD saluted who sacrificed their lives for territorial integrity of Manipur.
The students body also condemned the �indiscriminate firing� on innocent students on July 20 and also suppression by the Government of India in Manipur.
