Imphal, July 23:
The United Committee, Manipur, UCM, spearheading the movement against the extension of the Centre-NSCN(IM) ceasefire to Manipur, has again cautioned the public against allowing the movement to take an unwanted direction and become communal.
The UCM, in a statement issued here, appealed to the public to combat attempts to take the movement in the wrong direction, particularly efforts to drive a wedge between communities and propagate a communal conflict.
While appealing to all sections to avoid communal sentiments, the UCM urged the public to follow the line of action charted out by it in the ant-ceasefire movement.
Peaceful and democratic means of protest were the means to success, it reiterated, adding that the UCM would never allow the NSCN(IM) ceasefire extension in Manipur.
Lt Col (retd) H Bhuban Singh, BJP MLA and chairman of the All Political Parties Forum, Manipur, has also appealed that the agitation against the ceasefire extension must be peaceful and democratic.
While urging protestors to shun violence and to confine their protestations within the framework of law, Col Bhuban in a statement expressed pain at learning that residences of some leaders and officials were contemplated to be attacked and destroyed last night.
