Ukhrul, April 22 2020:
Following the demolition of a recently constructed temporary border fence, the people living at the border area in Kamjong district have expressed deep apprehension that there could be a spread of COVID-19 from across the border.
The fence was allegedly pulled down by Myanmar Army.
Ironically the border fence was put up to discourage cross border movement.
The porous border need to be sealed completely to prevent any cross border transmission, said the villagers while interacting with media persons.

The district administration had put up temporary GI sheet gate to prevent entry into Phaikok and Skipe village but the same was pulled apart last Sunday by Myanmarese Army, alleged the villagers.
They further mentioned that the area between international border pillar 91 and 93 under Kamjong is very porous and there are reports of cross border movement every now and then.
There is always a possible way to sneak into Indian territory anytime as the border is easily accessible on foot, they added.
Another villager from Kamjong said that there was a report that Covid-19 was detected at Jeti village in Myanmar, which is very close to Pilong village under Kamjong sub-division, Manipur making the villagers feel unsafe all that more.
According to a source, the Myanmar army along with the villagers of Myanmar demolished the GI sheet gates set up temporarily at Phaikhok and Skipe on the ground that the Indian authority had not consulted with Myanmar while constructing the gate and claimed that the fence was inside Myanmar territory.
The district administration is awaiting a nod from the Centre to designate the spot for construction of a temporary gate.
It might be mentioned that villages in Kamjong district which share boundary with Myanmar are Phaikhok, Skipe, Kangpat, Movailuk, Chatric, Nambisia, Kongkan, Ramphoi, Huimin Thana, Phange, Grihang etc on the eastern region while at the south the villages include Ashang Khullen, Namlee, Wangli, Kangoi, Puntum.
The villagers of Kamjong also said that the lockdown should be strictly enforced while interacting with Phungyar AC MLA Leishiyo Keishing at Kamjong headquarters.
The MLA asked the villagers to immediately reactivate the screening at Ramphoi village to check outsiders visiting Kamjong and assured that he will consult with the Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong to work out the precautionary measures more minutely.
