The 2nd Zeliangrong Folk Festival-2004 organised by the Society For Promotion Of Community Task (SPCT) Imphal was held at the Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT) today with Art and Culture Minister Ph Parijat and Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) chairperson G Moirangjao Kabui as the chief guest and president respectively.
The festival was held under the theme "Peace and Solidarity".
Speaking at the function, Ph Parijat while laying stress on the importance of culture and tradition in identifying a particular race or tribe urged the people to preserve and promote Zeliangrong culture and tradition which have been handed down the generations by the forefathers.

He further said that the Art and Culture Department on its part would extend all possible help to promote such festival in future.
The Minister also donated a sum of Rs 5000 to the organising committee.
In his presidential speech, IMC chairperson G Moirangjao Kabui said that such festival should be held regularly to revive the traditional folk songs and dances which are slowly dying among the younger generations due to the influence of the western culture.
Culture not only helps in maintaining peace in the society but also plays a big role in portraying one's tribe or race to the outside world, added Moirangjao Kabui.
Traditional dance competition and drum beating marked the festival which was attended by hundreds of Zeliangrongs from all over the State.
