The United Committee, Manipur has written to the Union Home Minister, LK Advani urging him to intervene and secure the release of two Manipuri drivers who were abducted by unidentified gunmen from Dimapur on August 10.In a representation submitted to the Home Minister UCM said the drivers, Longjam Dhamendra and Chingshubam Ibungocha were abducted by the armed men in front of DK Service located about 2 and a half kms from Dimapur East police station.
The abductors came in a police Gypsy and a 407 Tata lorry and took the Tata trucks which were filled with rice along with the two drivers.
The vehicles were found abandoned later but the two drivers have since been missing, said the statement.
The UCM said that Nagaland Chief Minister SC Jamir informed them that the abductions could be the handiwork of NSCN (IM) cadres.
He also denied the involvement of Nagaland police, said the representation.
Under the circumstances the UCM urged the Home Minister to ascertain the whereabouts of the two drivers, ensure their safety and to get them released at the earliest possible.
