Imphal, August 16:
In it's first major political move after the withdrawal of the NSCN (IM) ceasefire from Manipur, the State unit BJP today decided to re the Centre not to dissolve the 7th State Assembly and press for the installation of either a BJP led Government or a Ministry supported by it in the State.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the party's executive committee presided by State unit president Meinam Bhorot at Mass Hotel, Assembly Road today.
BJP MLAs including former Chief Minister RK Dorendra, Haobam Bhuban and Dr Haobam Borobabu, party executive committee members, district presidents and leaders of Mahila Mandals attended the meeting.
The meeting resolved to request the-Prime Minister, Home Minister and other Central leaders to scuttle moves to dissolve the 7th State Assembly and allow installation of a popular Ministry led by either the BJP or backed by it so as to improve the fiscal health of the State.
Expressing concern over the abduction of two truck drivers by unidentified gunmen in Nagaland, the BJP leaders also agreed to appeal to the State Government to take up stringent steps for their release.
They further made a fervent appeal to all those who had fled their homes during the recent ceasefire imbroglio to return to their respective places and carry on normal living.
BJP State president Meinam Bhorot narrated the efforts of the party MLAs in Delhi for the withdrawal of the NSCN (IM) ceasefire from Manipur after a public protest arose over it.
He also informed the meeting of the commitments given by the Central leaders to the State BJP MLAs on the issue.
Stating that the party has received information that the State Assembly would not be dissolved till the completion of the Parliament session, the BJP president opined that the damages inflicted to Government properties including the Assembly Secretariat in the public uprising could be repaired only after the installation of a popular Ministry in the State.
MLA H Bhuban said that holding of fresh elections after dissolving the House will be a big burden both for the State as well as the electorates under the prevailing circumstances.
On the other hand, the development front is unlikely to see any improvement if the President's Rule exists any longer, he added.
Bhuban expressed his desire to consult central BJP leaders and work towards the formation of a BJP led Ministry in the State.
