A team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) would be visiting Manipur to check whether due preparations have been initiated for the next State Assembly election which is likely to be held in the early part of 2017 .
Election Commission of India Director General Sudeep Jain held a video conference with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) O Naba-kishore and joint CEO N Praveen about the next Manipur Legislative Assembly election this afternoon, conveyed an official source.
The State Election Department has started due prepa- rations for the Assembly election and a team of the Elect- ion Commission of India would visit the State in the last part of July to assess the preparation works, informed the source.
The ECI Director General not only enquired the CEO whether the State has adequate number of EVMs and how many more would be needed for the State Assembly election.
The ECI further instructed the State Election Department to send back defunct or defective EVMs, if there is any, to the factory for repairing.
The ECI has, meanwhile, developed a mobile apps for tracking EVMs and a team of ECI would give training to State Election officials on July 5 on using the apps.
On the other hand, a Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign has been already launched in connection with the State Assembly election, added the source.
