Bodies differ on rape 'co-accused'

Claiming that its president Oinam Ibomcha was not involved in the rape of one Tombileima, Lamthabung Area Voluntary Association, Phaugakchao Ikhai has warned that it will launch different forms of agitation with the help of local people if Ibomcha is not released within July 31. Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club today, Association general secretary K.Joychandra said that Ibomcha was arrested by a police team of Moirang Police Station on the charge of his involvement in the alleged rape case of Ksh Tombileima (27).However, the prime accused Ng Abothe alias Thapa (26) is still absconding, he added.
Alleging that O Ibomcha was arrested based on misleading information provided by victim's brother-in-law Ksh Ibochou, the general secretary made it clear that the club president did not go out of his house with the absconding accused in the night of June 17, the day the incident happened.
Flaying one Sorenshangbam Manglemba for making wrong statement, the general secretary clarified that the said person is not the president of the J AC constituted against the incident.
Reiterating that Oinam Ibomcha is innocent, K Joychandra added that Ibomcha is also the general secretary of Kouta Surrounding Villagers United Club, an umbrella organisation of 25 different clubs of the area.
Urging the police to nab the real accused Ng Abothe.
Joychandra added that meira paibees and local people are also in hunt of him.
Mention may made that the JAC had recently cautioned the Government that it would launch intense agitation in case Ibomcha is released from police custody.
The JAC claimed Ibomcha to be an accomplice of Abothe, who is evading arrest.
