7 women killed, one commits suicide since Jan

Imphal, June 26 2012:
With reports of unwanted and unbelievable incidents taking place in rapid succession during the last few months, violence and crime against women and children is becoming like daily occurrence in state.
According to reports received by Hueiyen Lanpao, at least seven women were killed in different incidents of violence and another one was compelled by circumstances to commit suicide at a young age.
Apart from these incidents, there are also various other unreported cases of rape and torture of young girls mercilessly.
In January 10, this year, an 8-year old girl from Ngaikhong Siphai was raped by one Oinam Ingocha of Nambol Leimapokpam.
The rapist was later apprehended by the police and sent to jail.
On February 4, a non Manipuri woman from Bihar, who was staying in a rented house at Nagamapal, was found hanging to death in a suspicious manner.
Another woman of 42 years from Moukot Village was also found dead in a drain near Churachandpur Police Station on February 6.Again on the 9th of the same month, another Nepali girl of 14 years from Takhamei village, Senapati district was alleged raped and attempted to kill by one Ngangom Shantikumar (27) of Sekta Mayai Leikai.
The alleged rapist, however, was later arrested by the police and sent to jail.
In the month of March this year, one Nameirakpam Babina of Naharup Awang Leikai was found hanged to death in the outhouse of her home on 22nd March.
On the same day, a chili seller was raped by four IRB personnel on the way to Imphal from Khoupum.
The 4 IRB personnel are currently languishing in jail.
Again on April 10, the body of one Keisham Premila (45), who reported went missing after going out from home on March 25, was found dead atop Mahadev hill, Kakching with her head and body torn apart.
The alleged murderer Mayanglangbam Khelendro of Kakching Warel Wangma Ningthou Pareng Khul was later apprehended by the police and sent to jail.
On April 15, in a bizarre incident, one Moirangthem Ratan (46) of Nambol Moijing Chingning killed his wife and his 7 years old son.
Later, he was also beaten to death by locals.
On May 1, one Reshma (27) of Leikhol committed suicide by consuming poison in Udaipur, Rajasthan following an argument with her boyfriend.
On May 8, one Khwairakpam ongbi Basanti was killed by her divorced husband at Bishnupur Jeep parking in broad day light.
The ex-husband was arrested by police and sent to jail.
On May 17, two lovebirds decided to commit suicide after a quarrel by consuming poison.
The girl died, but the boy was saved, who was subsequently arrested and to jail.
The incident happened at Awang Leikinthabi Chingkhong.
One Lairenjam Inaocha was arrested by the police and sent to jail after he was caught raping a 7 years old girl on May 19.On May 20, one Ningthoujam Premkumar was put behind the bar for trying to kill his girlfriend by pushing her into a river.
A 3-year old girl of Lamlai Mayai Leikai was also allegedly raped by one Wangkheirakpam Romeo.
Though a case has been registered by the police no arrest has been made so far.
