Zonal heads threaten to shut SBI, UBI banks

The four zonal Chairmen of Tangkhul villages in Ukhrul district have threatened to shut SBI and UBI banks of Ukhrul town in case RBI fails to address their demands on or before July 25 .
Speaking to this correspondent, the Chairman of western Tangkhul Naga Villages Association M Raman said a complaint petition jointly signed by four zonal Chairmen of Tangkhul villages was submitted to the Reserve Bank of India highlighting the issues of banking inconveniences at Ukhrul district and to look into it before July 25, failing which, they will take up action including shutting down SBI and UBI banks at Ukhrul.
Ukhrul district has been reeling under cash shortage for more than a month now with customers unable to withdraw cash from ATM booths.
Although Asst General Manager of UBI had assured to install VSAT and engage more staff in the bank last year to ensure satisfactory services yet no improvement has been witnessed, said Raman.
A separate memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister to look into the matter.
The Zonal Chairmen also appealed the public of Ukhrul town especially the bank customers to support their movement and to understand the issue for the welfare of the public.
