Members of Extra Judicial Execution Victim Families Association (EEVFAM) and a large number of womenfolk stormed CBI office, Manipur, at Lamphelpat today afternoon demanding speedy trial of the extra judicial cases and to give befitting punishment to the security personnel involved in the said cases.
A large number of EEVFAM members, womenfolk and leaders of various CSOs marched towards the CBI office at Lamphelpat from Naoremthong Laishram Leirak holding a banner "Justice to the victim, Now punish the fake encounter specialists" and photos of ex-Chief Minister O Ibobi, former DGP Manipur (and present Deputy Chief Minister) Y Joykumar and IPS officer Ak Jhalajit.
Before the protest rally reached the main entrance gate of CBI Manipur office, a team of Lamphel PS was deployed at the area to prevent the protesters from advancing any further.
However the womenfolk overpowered the police team and marched up till the entrance gate of the CBI office shouting slogans demanding a speedy investigation and trial of the pending alleged fake encounter cases.
The protesters also demanded to have a word with the officers concerned of CBI/SIT who are handling the cases.
Additional police personnel of Imphal West soon arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.
Speaking to media persons, Renu Takhellambam, president of EEVFAM said that the protest demonstration rally has been carried out by members of the association as well as leaders of various Meira Paibis and CSOs against the Government for remaining silent on the issue.
Asking why the Government is still protecting the accused in the infamous July 23, BT Road incident, Dr Ak Jhalajit, the then Additional SP of Imphal West, she appealed to the Court to reject the bail application filed by Jhalajit and also appealed to the authority concerned to launch necessary investigation against him in connection with the case.
She also alleged that the CBI has failed to take up the 1528 alleged fake encounter cases properly.
The CBI is also lagging behind in some of the cases they have taken up till date,
she stated.
She further appealed to the CBI to submit the enquiry report and produce it before the Supreme Court on July 27 .
Rk Radhesana, president of Khwairamband Keithel Semgat Sagat Lup said that the protest rally has been carried to show dissatisfaction with the Central Government for hiding the security personnel involved in the alleged fake encounter cases of Manipur.
Ramani Devi, president of Nupi Samaj, claimed that the killing of innocent people has been in vogue for the past many years but despite such cases being taken up by the CBI, no kind of justice has been brought to the victims' families till date.
She then appealed to the CBI to bring out the facts behind the alleged fake encounter cases and to produce the guilty persons and to give them befitting punishment as per the law.
