The grandmother of a woman, identified as Chingtham Victoria (Babycha), who was allegedly found hanged to death at Kangsoibi Mapal, Bishnupur district, has appealed to the authorities concerned to reinvestigate the matter at the earliest.
The 22 year old woman was allegedly found hanged to death at around 5 pm of January 14.She worked as a warden cum teacher at a private school at Nambol.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club yesterday, the grandmother of the deceased, Haojam (o) Yaimabi Leima of Kumbi Uchan expressed suspicion at regarding the nature of her granddaughter's death and added that she had lodged a written complaint to Bishnupur SP to reinvestigate the matter.
She claimed that after six months after her daughter Chingtham (o) Jamila gave birth to Victoria, she (Jamila) was forced to return to her home at Kumbi Uchan Makhong as she could not bear the constant harassment at the in-laws house.
She said that the in-laws had requested for custody of Victoria and as such Victoria had stayed with them at Kangsoibi Mapal since she was a class VIII student.
The grandmother claimed that the night Victoria died, she (Victoria) was taking part in the kitchen works as there was a feast at residence.
She said that she received news that Victoria hanged herself while there was a brief absence of people in the house.
Claiming that the news was not delivered to her in time and questioning why the dead body was cremated before the necessary post mortem could be conducted, the grandmother claimed that the in-laws did not allow for the body to be taken for post mortem by making some superstitious claims.
She appealed to the authority concerned to look into the matter and reinvestigate the death of her granddaughter at the earliest.
