Imphal, August 13 2020:
The United Porompat Baruni Road Organisation (UPBRO) has urged the State Government to revoke its plan of setting up a mass grave for COVID-19 victims at Awang Ching, Baruni Chingkhong in Imphal East district.
A press release signed by UPBRO president Thokchom Surchandra said that there is no shortage of remote hilly locations in the State for setting up the same if it is indeed necessary.
Though experts say that COVID-19 is not to be feared, frontline workers wear PPE suits to protect themselves from the virus, indicating that the disease is not to be taken lightly, the organisation said.
Pointing out that mortal remains of COVID victims are not even allowed to be taken into their localities, UPBRO suggested all concerned to cremate people who died of the contagion at Minuthong crematorium, where unclaimed bodies are always cremated.
The organisation also opined that setting up electric crematorium facilities at JNIMS and RIMS for cremating COVID-19 victims would solve all problems and even create job opportunities for the unemployed youth.
