Training programme held

Kangpokpi, November 10 2018:
A one-day training programme was conducted on scientific cultivation ofRabi Crops with emphasis on soil test crop response recommendations (STCR) cum input distribution at Wainem Village of Kangpokpi district.
The programme was organized by ICAR-RC for NEH region, Manipur Centre under the sponsorship of AICRP on STCR, Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal.
In the programme, Dr T Basanta Singh, Scientist (Soil Science) and Principal Investigator of the STCR project mentioned the importance of soil testing before establishing any crop based farming activity.
He demonstrated the technical knowhow of the soil collection procedures and soil sample preparation.
He also mentioned the importance of acquiring Soil Health Card by the farmers.
Dr Basanta also emphasized on the judicious use of fertilizers based on the soil test values.
He also mentioned the importance of compost and vermicompost making to get rid of the harmful effects of non-judicious use of fertilizers and the benefits of using compost in integration with fertilizers.
The farmers were supplied with the improved variety of pea (Arkel) seeds, Rhizobium formulation for seed treatment, organic waste decomposers for composting, organic and microbial based pesticides and termiticides.
He narrated the importance of legume plants in the soil nitrogen fixation process and soil conservation.
About forty farmers atttended the programme while Village chief of Wainem village Akhom appreciated ICAR, Manipur Centre for organizing such programme which will definitely improve the skills of farmers.
