Armed struggle is no solution: Debendro

No solution in a conflict could be brought about by an armed struggle, said Law and Legislative Affairs minister Th Debendro, who is currently looking after the chair of CM in the absence of O Ibobi, today while speaking as chief guest in the �Anti Terrorism Day� .
Like in other parts of the country, the state also observed the day to mark the 20th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Debendro led the gathering in offering floral tributes to the Late Prime Minister at the state observance function held at the South Block of the state secretariat.
Speaking on the occasion, Debendro reminded that disunity amongst the peoples of the state will bring nothing but loss to all and urged the people to unite and stand firm against terrorism.
Terrorism brings nothing but woes like hurting people, destruction of properties and hatred among the people, he said appealing to the armed insurgent groups to come to the negotiating table.
Recalling the life of Rajiv Gandhi, Debendro said that he not only worked to root out terrorism but made efforts to devolve more power to Panchayati Raj and to empower women.
Among others, the function was attended by PHED and IPR minister TN Haokip, YAS minister DD Thaisii, Chief Secretary DS Poonia.
MPCC also observed the day with a function at Congress Bhavan, BT Road.
It was marked by blood donations by Congress workers including MLA M Prithviraj, the president of the state unit of Youth Congress.
Speaking as chief guest, MPCC president Gaikhangam stressed the need to know the life and works of the former Prime Minister while observing the day.
He said, Rajiv Gandhi had sacrificed his life for the sake of peace.
In the blood donation camp held in connection with the day, 500 units of blood was donated by youth congress workers led by MLA Prithivraj.
The MLA said that the blood would be used to save the lives of the poor sections of the society.
The camp was organized in association with RIMS and JNIMS authorities, he added.
