Imphal, May 16, 2010:
In view of the State Government's decision to implement 6th Pay, the All Manipur Government Graduate Teachers' Association (AMGOGTA) has appealed to the Government to revise their salary structure compatible to the Central Government's pay scale.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, AMGOGTA general secretary M Deban Mangang said that pay scale for Graduate teachers under Central Government is 5500-175-9000 per month.
This has been increased to 9300-34,800 since implementation of the 6th Pay.
The same pay scale should be entitled to Graduate teachers under the State Government if it is implementing the 6th Pay.
However, as per the order issued by the State Government on May 5 regarding 6th Pay, pay scales of Graduate teachers and Primary teachers are equal.
Observing that fixing pay scales of Primary teachers and Secondary teachers equally would' seriously jeopardize the initiative of establishing model schools, Deban appealed to the Government to revise/ rectify the pay scale of Graduate teachers.
AMGOGTA executive member O Hemanta pointed out that the pay scales entitled to Graduate teachers appointed before 2007 and later are not equal.
Pay scale entitled to Graduate teachers appointed in 2007 is equal to the pay scale entitled to Primary teachers.
Pay scale for Graduate teachers appointed in 2007 was given as 4500-125-7000 in the advertisement notification but it was reduced to 4000-100-6000 at the time of issuing appointment orders.
On the other hand, these Graduate teachers were given their, postings in model schools.
As such, they should get more incentives but on the contrary, they are getting reduced salaries, Hemanta lamented.
Saying that such irregularities have dented the spirit of teachers, he appealed to the Govt not to invite strikes from teachers.
