Imphal, July 02 2011:
Due to the very poor condition of the Imphal-Saikul road which remains unattended by the state government and concerned authority people are facing great hardship in travelling through the road.
Some drivers and passengers of vehicles plying along the road told Hueiyen Lanpao that the condition of the 10 km long stretch between the AR post at Sagolmang and Ikou Keithel is in the worst condition.
Many potholes have widened and deepened due to the monsoon rains and are causing great inconveniences to vehicles ferrying passengers.
There were many incidents of broken main springs of the vehicles or crews of vehicles spending a whole night at the place as the vehicle got stuck in potholes and the mud.
Besides, people of the area are utilizing two vehicles to go to Imphal and other places from Gampijang side to Ikou Keithel and vice versa due to the incompletion of the RCC culvert and the new detour road which was made after cutting the hill side.
It is now impossible for passenger vehicles to pass through the impassible conditions arising from the construction of the culvert.
Mud slides occuring from the hills due to the frequent rain has made passenger vehicles near impossible to pass the stretch.
The Imphal Saikul Road which covers a distance of 33 km from Imphal to Saikul Keithel runs through Khundrakpam and Saikul ACs.
People along the stretch are waiting for attention from the two MLAs of the two constituencies, MLA Doukhomang Khongsai and MLA Th Lokeshore.
