IMC plans to dump garbage at Lamdeng Solid Waste Plant

Imphal, July 29 2011:
According to sources, IMC along with private NGOs has been collecting 225 tonnes of garbage from the Imphal Municipal Area using 45,407 mini trucks on a daily basis.
The garbage is being dumped in the KRYPSA Ground Lamphel at present.
The Manipur Pollution Control Board had detected E.Coli virus strains in the surrounding water bodies of the dumping site during tests.
The IMC is now discussing to dump garbage at the Solid Waste Management Plant at Lamdeng.
However, IMC is fearing of possible problems since the plant is not completed.
The IMC is now planning to dig pits inside the plant and dump garbage, the source said.
Meanwhile, IMC has recently repaired the road that leads to the present dumping site at a cost of '3 lakh.
The IMC is plans to repair the road by sanctioning another ' 5 lakh amount.
IMC has also defogged the surrounding area of the dumping site to prevent malaria outbreak which is a possible threat to the health of the people of the surrounding area.
