Imphal, August 23 2021:
People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) and Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak in joint statement appealed to authorities of Micro finance organisations and money lenders concerned to refrain from collecting interests and loan amounts from the loanees.
The street vendors and women vendors of various local markets who constitute a major portion of such loanees have been worst hit by COVID-19 pandemic and are trying to sustain themselves amid this relaxation of curfew and restrictions which were imposed by the State to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission, added the statement.
The two organisations maintained that the businesses have not resumed completely as the Government have allowed opening of shops and vendors only on rotational basis.
Therefore both the organisations called on the micro finance organisations and money lenders to stop collecting interests and loan amounts from the said loanees for the time being until the situation improves.
