Imphal, July 21 2021:
Considering the fact that all Class X students this year are to be promoted to Class XI, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has urged the government to double the intake capacity in government higher secondary schools to accommodate the students.
In a statement, AMSU said that the quality of government schools, despite the support of the government, is not improving due to low enrolment rate.
By increasing the enrolment of students in government schools, the government's School Fagathansi Mission would become a success.
The Union continued that since all Class X students are to be promoted, the number of students enrolled in Class XI will increase two-three times including those in government schools, especially those located in areas beyond in Imphal.
However, as there are some government schools where the students are unable to get admission, the government should increase the intake capacity of the schools to accommodate the students, apart from developing necessary infrastructures while there is still time.
For this, the education department could form a committee under the guidance of the education minister to take up action at the earliest.
"The pandemic has rendered low-income families hapless and as such, the children have no choices available other than government schools.
It would be a huge loss if the students who do not have the means to study in private schools are also unable to afford government schools.
As such, it would be prudent on the part of the government to make some kind of arrangement and help pave the way for the future generations to continue their study", AMSU stated.
