Imphal, May 18 2013 : A day after Ningthoujam Bidyapati Devi created a record as the first woman from Manipur to scale Mt Everest, Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba, a 16-year-old Manipuri school kid stepped his feet atop the world's highest mountain at 5.15AM (IST) today to go down in the history of mountaineering as the youngest climber from the entire North East to conquer Mt Everest.

Both of them are part of the 1st North East Top of the Mount Everest Expedition 2013, which had been officially sent off from Kangla Fort here on February 25 last.

Apart from Puyamcha Mohon, two more Manipuri climbers namely Shanker and Bidyachandra who represent NCC group in the team would be attempting to reach the summit of Mt Everest tomorrow morning.

A resident of Patsoi in Imphal West district, Chingkheinganba is presently a student of class XI in Kanan Devi Memorial School, Pangei and he has been trained in mountain climbing under the tutelage of Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA).

He has also completed Sample Basic Course from NIM, Uttarkashi in 2012 .

Chingkheinganba is the youngest climbers among the team of 1stNorth East Top of the Mount Everest Expedition 2013.As preparation for the expedition to Mt Everest, Chingkheinganba had earlier climbed Mt Deo-Tibba (6000metre) and Mt Papsura(6445 metre) in Himachal Pradesh last year.

Currently, the world record of youngest climber to scale the summit of Mt Everest is being held by Jordan Romeo, an American mountain climber.

He achieved the feat on May 22, 2010 at the age of 13 years, 10 months and 10 days while the youngest Indian to do so is Arjun Bajpayee.

Incidentally, it was on the same day that Jordan and Arjun, who was then 16 years old, reached the summit.

Although Arjun, who had climbed via the traditional South Col route in Nepal, stepped his feet on the world's highest mountain ahead of Jordan, and equaled the world record of being the youngest to step atop the world's highest peak which was still then held by one Nepalese boy Sherpa Temba Tsheri.

But his feat was overturned hours later by Jordan who broke the record by climbing the peak from the tough North Eastern ridge route in Tibet.

Besides Chingkheinganba, Ansu Jamshenpa of Arunachal Pradesh, David Zohmangaiha of Mizoram, Tarun Sakia of Assam, Karzi Sherpa of Sikkim and Wanshuk Myrthong of Meghalaya reached the peak of Mt Everest, (8,848 metres or 29,029 ft above sea level) today, a day after Bidyapati of Manipur, Nima Lima of Arunachal Pradesh and Anand Gurung of Sikkim successfully scaled the peak of the world's highest mountain.

Anand Gurung was the first climber from the team to conquer Everest.

Along with Chingkheinganba, Anshu Jamshenpa, David Zohmangaiha, Tarun Saikia, Kazi Sherpa reached the summit of Mt Everest at 5.15AM (IST) while Wangsuk Myrthong at 8.15AM (IST) .

With the successful climb to the summit, David Zohmangaiha, Tarun Saikia and Wangshuk Myrthong have become first Mt.

Everest summiteers from their respective States.

Anshu Jamsenpa also created history by being the only mother of two kids who successfully scale the world's highest peak for the third time.

She had earlier climbed the summit of Mt Everest, first time on May 12, 2011 and the second time on May 21, 2011.After completing Combined Adventure Course from MMTA, Imphal, Anshu Jamshenpa, who hails from Bomdila, is presently working as Guest Instructor for Sample Adventure Course at HMI, Darjeeling.
