AMWJU observes its 38th Foundation Day

The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) celebrated its 38th Foundation Day at the Manipur Press Club today.
President of AMWJU, A Mobi presided over the function.
Works Minister, K Ranjit, IFCD Minister, N Biren, Health Minister, L Jayentakumar and Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, Manipur, Bijoy koijam were the presidium members on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister N Biren said that the NRL Energy distributers of the state are profiting at the cost of the people.
They are against the interest of the common people.
So a show cause notice will be sent to the concern NRL energy distributers and the process to close down their business in the state will be taken up.
He further said that the NRL energy distributer shares a large amount of the states petroleum products distribution mechanism.
But unfortunately, they seem not to care about the problems faced by the common people due to the ongoing economic blockade.
They are reluctant to ferry petroleum products on the Imphal - Jiribam road, because of the high transportation cost.
They are purely driven by profit motive and do not have the interest of the people.

Stating that there is no question of scarcity of petrol as adequate quantity is being supplied to the pumps as in normal times, N Biren asserted that black marketeers who manage to line up number of vehicles at the pumps are siphoning off a substantial quantity.
He revealed that he would see to it that people do not line up the night before as a preventive step and would even seek police help for this purpose.
Speaking on the occasion, Works Minister K Ranjit said that different communities are settled in the state and have been intermingling with each other from time immemorial.
But the situation now seems like one community is after the other's neck.
The media community in covering and reporting issues of the current problems needs to be a little bit careful.
Minister L Jayentakumar and MLA Bijoy koijam also spoke on the role of the media in the present context.
They praised the important role played by media in the society hoped it continue to do so in future.
A Mobi, President AMWJU said that the press continues to face threats and various pressures from many quarters but that there is nothing which cannot the sorted out through reasoned talks.
He reiterated that the AMWJU will continue to fight for the rights of journalists in the state.
As a part of the function veteran journalist were presented with gifts.
