Imphal, September 16 2011:
On account of the blockade at Thamnapokpi along ImphalMoreh section of NH 2 (erstwhile NH 39), around 150 vehicles including Tata Sumos, vans, buses and Tata DIs have been stranded between Pallel and Bongyang since the last 4/5 days.
When a media team visited the stranded vehicles today, the drivers sought immediate attention of the Government.
Pointing out that Imphal-Moreh highway is an important route for trade and commerce of Manipur, the drivers decried that the State Government has been focusing all its attention on Imphal-Jiribam highway and Imphal-Dimapur highway while totally neglecting Imphal-Moreh road.
Even as Tengnoupal Police, Moreh Police and Chandel Police have been deployed near Thamnapokpi, their presence makes no difference to the blockaders, said the stranded drivers.
Though the drivers have been stranded there for the last 4/5 days without a clue as to when they would reach Imphal, Pallel Police and Customs staff have already collected entry fees coming to the spot where the vehicles are currently stranded.
They also demanded deployment of adequate security along Pallel-Moreh section so that there is unhindered movement of vehicles
along Imphal-Moreh highway.
