Imphal, July 13 2012:
As part of the agitation being spearheaded by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, around 100 activists of five student bodies tried to storm the Assembly Complex today afternoon.
However, police posted there foiled their plan.
According to a student leader, the reason behind the failed attempt to storm the Assembly Complex was the prior information received of the student activists waiting for an opportune moment to storm the Assembly complex from behind the wall of Lilashing Khongnangkhong High School.
After getting wind of the matter, a large number of police personnel rushed in there, thus forcing the student activists to flee away from the high
school compound.
Around 40 students were trapped inside Adimjati Sikshya Aashram while trying to flee.
SDPO Madhunimai, who arrived at the scene, persuaded the students to leave the place in a police van.
After coming to an agreement, Modhunimai left the place and a prisoner van arrived soon after.

However, the police van could not hold all the students upon which the students demanded to bring a larger vehicle.
Police asked the all the students to climb into the van whether there is enough space for them or not.
After a brief confrontation, the students tried to flee from the school campus.
When they were about to reach the gate, a Nepali police personnel stationed at the gate rushed in aiming his AK 47 Rifle on the students.
On seeing that, some police personnel even came forward to the rescue of the students and shouted at the Nepali personnel to stop what he was doing.
The student activists demanded the Nepali personnel to apologise for his action, which could cost lives of students as well as police personnel.
In the meantime, a truck arrived and the police told the students to climb inside the truck.
However, the students refused and remained near the gate of the school.
At around 4 pm, SDPO Modhunimai came again and asked the students to head for DM College Campus and kept them at the Canteen of DMC Science.
Later, when the news of passing of a private member resolution over ILP in the State Assembly reached them, the students began to cheer up.
On the other hand, hundreds of school students, who were trying to take out a rally on the streets of Imphal to press the demand for implementation of Inner Line permit (ILP) system in the state, rained stones at police personnel blocking their way in front of CC Higher Secondary School.
However, there was no casualty in the violent scuffle which took place between the students and police but some protesting students were canned by the police to control them.
Students of CC Higher Secondary School were about to take out a rally just after midday when a large number of Manipur police in around eight Gypsies appeared in front of the school gate and tried to prevent them from organizing the protest rally, leading to the violent standoff.
The police had to lathi charge them as the students insisted on taking out the rally.
Enraged by the police action, the students threw stones at the police, who protected themselves by lying down on the ground behind the school fence.
Police also prevented a large number of student leaders and volunteers of six student bodies from proceeding towards the state assembly today.
