Imphal, August 08, 2013:
Five different women organisations have lambasted the failure of police department to pull up B Samananda, the accused of Khoyathong rape case.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur president L Memchoubi B Shamananda Sharma who allegedly raped the disabled woman twice at her home in the afternoon of July 26 is still at large though it has been 13 days since the bestial crime was committed.
It is a clear indication of the sheer inefficacy of Manipur Police, Memchoubi asserted.
A memorandum demanding prompt arrest of the accused was submitted to the local MLA on July 31. Saying that the Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur, WACAK, CHITUWA, AMKIL and Kanglamei are deeply concerned with such dereliction of duty on the part of police, Memchoubi said that they would be constrained to launch intense forms of agitation together with other civil society organisations and the JAC in case the accused is not pulled up the earliest.
She also appealed to all concerned not to interfere in the rape case with political motives.
Rather all need to join together to ensure that justice is delivered.
It is rather disappointing that police could not arrest a simple cook who worked in Chaluk Hotel, remarked AMKIL secretary L Gyaneshwari.
Saying that a JAC has been already constituted in connection with the rape case, Gyaneshwari appealed to all concerned to work together for the sake of justice instead of forming another JAC.
WACAK president Soubam Ibetombi, CHITUWA general secretary Motibala and JAC convenor Khumukcham Anil were also present at the press meet.
