Manipur Government to set up Model College in every district

Education Minister M Okendro has stated that the State Government is trying to establish model colleges in all nine districts in order to uplift higher education sector of the State.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the closing function of Golden Jubilee Celebration of Modern College, Porompat held here today.
Okendro further said that a democratic government functions according to the wishes of people.
The State Government has been working dedicatedly for the welfare and development of the people.
The education system of the State has been greatly improved with greater enrolment of students in colleges of the State, he added.
The State has no university of its own, though three central universities namely Manipur University, Central Agricultural University and Indira Gandhi National Tribal University are imparting quality higher education to the students, Education Minister noted.
He further announced that a State University would be set up soon to cater the need for higher education among economically backward students in the State.
Reacting to the demand of some students and organizations for his resignation as Education Minister, Okendro said that he has pledged to bring about significant changes in education system of the State within six months, and he has been striving to keep his commitment.
Regular Principals of colleges would be appointed within three months.
Moreover, higher education would be strengthened further under a new centrally sponsored scheme known as Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), he assured.
Education Minister also mentioned that the Government would try to upgrade Modern College as the model college in Imphal East district.
The college is suitably located near the police station and hospital, he noted.
Further, Okendra condemned the DM College incident saying that students should be well disciplined and they should not act wildly at any circumstance.
The closing function was also attended by MLA of Khurai Constituency Dr Ng Bijoy, Principal of Modern College Dr K Biren and founder Principal of the College Akham Rabichandra.
Gifts and prizes were also given to the founder members and meritorious students of the college.
