The Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) along with other indigenous people organisations of the State would observe the International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples with the theme Indigenous Peoples building alliances: Honouring treaties, agreement and other constructive arrangements.
Given the theme of the International Day of Indigenous peoples, CORE in a statement urged all indigenous people and their organisations, human rights defenders, social workers and activists to remain steadfast in the beliefs, faiths on a world where indigenous peoples' rights are respected; to continue the efforts on building a partnership between States and indigenous peoples based on trust, mutual respect, rule of law and the affirmation of indigenous peoples' culture and customs.
It also urged the State to take concrete steps to honour and strengthen the treaties that have been concluded with indigenous peoples and to cooperate with them in implementing new agreements or other constructive arrangement through transparent, inclusive and participatory negotiations.
Further it urged the State to enhance dignity of life by removing regressive legislation such as AFSPA, Disturbed Area Act, NSA etc.
