Ukhrul, May 09 2014 :
In what can be termed as a major medical mistake, PLHAs were administered wrong doses of ART medicines at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kamjong.
A reliable report informed that some HIV/AIDS patients in Kamjong CHC were given wrong ART doses in the month of April last.
Some PLHAs, who were on ZLN dose, were reportedly administered with ZLE and complained of suffering severe physical problems like headache and nausea.
A PLHA Awon (name changed), who is on ZLN treatment was given ZLE for April when she went to collect her month's dose in the month of March.
On enquiry, a staff at the link ART centre informed her that the supply list came from Ukhrul District Hospital.
In the last week of April last, when she went to get her dose for May she was informed of the mistake and was then supplied with the right dose by another staff.
Health experts informed that the ZLN dose is administered to those patients having CD4 count less than 500 and ZLE to those patients after a test conducted on liver and kidney function report otherwise.
Some PLHAs in Kamjong were distraught with the mistake in the ART dose and felt gravely wronged by the hospital staff's negligence.
District AIDS Control Society in-charge Dr.Ayao Vashum informed that there are three link ART centres including District Hospital, Kamjong CHC and in Kasom Khullen sub-division in Ukhrul.
There are 769 patients receiving ART in the district as on April 2014 .
