KSA on reservation row : MU urged to follow UGC norms

Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) one of the apex student body which has been working to provide better education facility in the State has asked authorities of Manipur University to comply with the norms of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in regard to the reservation quota .
Addressing media persons today at their office located at Konjeng Hazari Leikai, president of KSA Moirangthem Lakshman said authorities of Manipur University should strictly follow the order of UGG sent to the university on March 23 and June 3 this year on reservation.
In both the letters, the UGC has clearly asked all the central universities receiving 100 percent grant-in-aid from the Central Govt to follow the reservation model of 15 percent for SCs, 7.5 percent for STs and 27 percent for OBCs in the matter of teaching and non-teaching posts as well as in admission to various courses except for Minority Educational Institutions under Article 30 (1) of the Constitution.
All Central varsities have been asked to follow reservation policy in admission in all courses as per provision contained in the Central Education (Reservation in Admission) Act of 2006 and Central Education (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act of 2016 .
As per the instruction of the UGC, all Central Universities have to maintain or provide reservation for SCs or STs in the recruitment process of teachers, he said quoting the letters of the UGC.
He maintained that KSA had earlier urged authorities of MU following the Academic Council meeting which was held on August 3 to follow the notice of the UGC.
MU is a Central University and the rules and regulations of set by the UGC should be followed, he asserted.
Issues relating to reservation policy should not affect the academic atmosphere of the varsity.
KSA with university students will launch series of agitation if the authorities fail to abide by the notification of UGC on reservation matter, he added.
He has further applauded the statement of the vice-chancellor (in-charge) made on August 21 on resolving the reservation matter, commencing the academic session, completing recruitment process and solving all pending issues and problems pertaining to Manipur University.
