Transport Department takes record of trucks entering State

Director of Transport Mercina Panmei said that the current situation is very crucial and challenging not only for the Manipur but for the entire world and the State Government has taken up various measures to contain the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to media persons, Mercina continued that the Transportation Department is taking record of all the good carrying trucks that are entering the State via Mao and Jiribam.
She informed that all the data and details recorded at the gates were shared to the department after every four hours.
Details such as which trucks have entered the State and what essential commodities they carry and the names of driver and handyman along with the contacts numbers are recorded, she added.
The department is taking up the effort to ensure that the truckers first reached Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Khuman Lampak and to refrain them from going home or mingle with the family members and public, she said, adding that once the trucks are released from the gates, the trucks boarded at Sekmai and Keithelmanbi check post, after which the vehicles are escorted by a team of security force up to ISBT.
Informing that once the trucks reached ISBT, a yellow card issued by the Transport Department counter and signed by the health team, which identify that they are fit to go and continue his/her work, are given to the truckers, she continued that the department took the driving license of the truckers after issuing the yellow card so that they come and report after unloading the commodities at ISBT.
Saying that the step was taken up as most of the truckers do not report after unloading, she added that after unloading, the department handed over the driving license and issued a green card which means that they can go out for an outbound journey.
The department is also trying to track some of the missing trucks which have not reported at ISBT, the Director said.
As Cabinet has decided to give Rs 1, 000 and Rs 500 to every driver and handyman each trip respectively, the department has started distributing the cash to some truckers.
She appealed to all truckers to cooperate with the transport department for the safety of the entire people in the State.
