Pregnant Murrah Buffaloes handed over

The Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Manipur distributed pregnant Murrah Buffalo (Heifers) to 25 selected beneficiaries of Senapati district.
A simple function was held at ICDP Complex, Porompat, today where the distribution took place.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the function, Veterinary Director Dr H Chaoba informed that riverine buffalo (Murrah buffalo) has high yield of milk more than swamp buffalo found in Manipur.
Milk is rich in protein, minerals and vitamin and it is a balanced food to stay healthy, he said.
He informed that a training programme for proper rearing of Murrah buffalo will be organised for the beneficiaries of Senapati district shortly.
The remaining pregnant murrah buffaloes will also be distributed to the beneficiaries of Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and some parts of Bishnupur districts covered under the 2nd instalment of the project.
He appealed the beneficiaries to well feed and properly nourish these pregnant buffaloes to get more milk production.
The 2nd instalment of pregnant Murrah buffaloes were distributed as part of the project funded by North Eastern Council (NEC) under the Ministry of DoNER to promote "adoption of milch buffalo in and around Loktak" and to encourage milk production in order to generate income in the State.
The distribution function was attended by Joint Director (Planning) Dr Ch Nandakishore, Joint Director (District Veterinary Senapati) Dr Sani Pao, Project Officer (ICDP) Dr Kh Shantibala and Deputy Director (Kangpokpi) Dr RK Harishyam.
