Imphal, November 12 2019:
Congress MLA Th Lokeshore has demanded the Chief Minister and the 40 MLAs who are in the Government to provide a written declaration to the public that they will take full responsibility for the State's integrity if they have firm belief in the assurance given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the conclusion to the Naga peace talks will not affect Manipur's interests.
He made the demand on the sidelines of an alert sit in protest organised by United Club Coordinating Committee, Khundrakpam Area, at Lainingthou Pangalba community hall (Khundrakpam Awang Leikai) under the aegis of COCOMI today.
The MLA narrated that when a team of Ministers, led by CM Biren, went and met the Union Home Minister, the team was reportedly assured that the conclusion of the Naga political issue will not impact Manipur in any way.
However, Amit Shah also assured to consult the stakeholders concerned before signing the final pact, he said, questioning as to why a consultation is seemingly necessary if the resolutions or contents of the peace talks will not impact on the State's interests in the first place.
The inconsistent assurances given by the Centre have only led to apprehension among the people of the State, he lamented, claiming that such dishonest and confusing statements are the reasons why the people have little faith in the Centre and the BJP led coalition State Government.
Lokeshore said that the Congress party does not believe any of the statements and clarifications made by the Centre and the State Government and as such, the party has been demanding a complete disclosure of the points contained in the Framework Agreement, the resolutions agreed upon during the October 31 peace talk as well as standing against any impact to the interest of Manipur as a result of the said issue.
The Khundrakpam MLA then demanded the Chief Minister and the 40 MLAs involved, to give a written declaration to the people that they will take full responsibility, if they have utmost faith in the Union Home Minister's assurance.
A large number of students, elders, womenfolk took part in the alert sit in protest today.
