Internet service provided to media houses through SWAN : Director

Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) Director, H Balkrishna Singh has asserted that following the ban imposed on internet/ data services by the Government in view of the prevailing law & order situation, the department made necessary arrangements to provide internet service to media houses in the State through SWAN to ensure the dissemination of information/ news to the public is not disrupted.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, H Balkrishna shared that the sudden outbreak of ethnic clash on May 3 has led to the irreparable loss of precious lives and properties.
He stated that due to the imposition of a ban on internet services by the Government as precautionary measures, media houses had to face a lot of difficulties to provide their service to the public.
"Considering all these, DIPR took steps to provide internet service to media houses operating in the State through SWAN under the Department of Information Technology from May 5", he added.
He continued that arrangements were also made to accommodate media persons in the DIPR Conference Hall and free internet service was provided through WIFI connections.
"Internet services were also provided to International, National and State media houses through leased lines", he added.
The Director mentioned that network connection was also provided to Manipur Press Club through the Department of Information Technology.
He informed that the Department of Information Technology Manipur and NIELIT Imphal have also opened a Facilitation Centre especially to provide the facility for students to appear on-line examinations.
H Balkrishna further shared similar facilities will be provided to students at Deputy Commissioner offices located across the State.
