Kakching, April 15 2021:
Expressing the need for a retrial at a higher Court following the acquittal of former ADC Chairman, Lhukhosei Zou and all those involved in Phoudel drug case, the Tejpur Awang Leikai Meira Paibi, Tejpur Lamjing Club and CADA Kakching District Committee jointly organised a sit-in protest at Tejpur Awang Leikai in Kakching district today.
Addressing media persons, Ningthoujam Doren, vice president, CADA raised questions against the motive of the Government for not taking the case to a higher Court even after the calls for re-investigation of the case from various sections over the past months.
He further urged the State Government to formulate more appropriate legislation to fight the drug menace in the State and make sure that drug peddlers and kingpins are awarded befitting punishment.
Slogans including 'do not demean war on drugs', ' award befitting punishments to drug smugglers' etc were raised at the end of the protest.
