Imphal, April 15 2021:
Noting that many communities claimed the Koubru Mountain Range as either the cradle of their civilisations or closely associated with their origin, the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has categorically stated that no community should claim exclusive rights over the mountain range.
Speaking to media persons at the Lamphelpt office of UCM this evening, COCOMI assistant coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said that there is no harm in protecting and conserving Koubru mountain range but ignition of communal tension and claiming exclusive rights over the mountain range in the name of conserving it is unacceptable.
He pointed out that many indigenous communities of the land see Koubru peak as the cradle or origin of their civilisation and history.
Further pointing out that the issue of Koubru peak is a very sensitive one, the COCOMI assistant coordinator expressed keen desire for the Government to settle the matter before it is too late in the interest of all the communities.
He then appealed to the apex bodies of Kangpokpi district to advise those elements who have been scheming to create communal tension and ensure that no untoward incident occurs.
