Ukhrul, February 12 2019:
Sambu Raiping Long (SRL) has extended solidarity to the decision of Tangkhul Students body (TKS) to socially boycott Education Minister Radheshyam Thokchom and not co-operate to the State Education Department.
Speaking at a press conference held today at Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) office, Viewland Ukhrul, president of SRL Nathan stated that Sambu area is one of the most backward areas of Ukhrul district adding that the education system in the region has been totally neglected for many years by the education department.
He further mentioned that Sambu villages are economical poor adding that they are dependent on Government's school for their children education.
According to him, eight RMSA teachers were posted in Zingsui Government High School out of which four were transferred on utilization basis.
Meanwhile, nine teachers of Mapum High School were also transferred on utilization.
The same problems are witnessed in all the six high schools under Sahamphung block and non of the teachers were able to complete one academic session while the schools are always running out of teachers, he added.
He questioned why the utilised teachers enjoy their monthly salary from their schools without serving the rural students.
The Government has to take the matter seriously in order to revamp rural education, he asserted.
Underlining the plights of Sambu villages, headman of Sahamphung village Kaphaoleng stated that the only road that connects the whole villages with the district headquarters, Ukhrul is in a pathetic condition.
The PMGSY road from Shirui to Kachouphung (more than 100 Km) is motorable during dry season only.
He added that recently MLA Alfred, Arthur Kanngam along MSRRDA engineers visited the area to take stock of the ongoing PMGSY road construction work.
However, no positive actions have been taken up for improvement of the road till date.
SRL urged the State Government to stop centralised policy of Directorate of Education, rationalise the teachers equally as per the strength of the recruited teachers in the State education Department in order to ensure smooth functioning of education in all the districts of the State.
