In an effort to strengthen mutual understanding and blood relationship among the Chin-Kuki-Mizo people across the globe, an informal meet was held on September 8, 2006 in the city of Frederick, a suburb of Washington, DC in the United States of America.
The program was part of the occasional meet conducted in the greater DC metropolitan area.
L Keivom, a retired Indian diplomat to a number of countries for more than two decades, was a special guest.
Keivom, who was an Indian ambassador to Burma (1987 � 1990), emphasized the need for standing up as one people and one nation � reiterating the importance of cultural and linguistic roles in a nation building.
L Keivom, who belongs to the Hmar tribe from the state of Manipur in northeast India, also suggested developing an international media portal to specifically cover the issues of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo people, which he referred to as "ZO".
Leaders from the present Chin state and Sagaing Division of Burma and from the states of Manipur and Mizoram in India, who are living in the United States of America, attended the meeting.
Attendees took the time to share the need for strengthening relationship among the Chin-Kuki-Mizo people.
Wrapping up the meeting as moderator, Nehginpao Kipgen, General Secretary of the Kuki International Forum said, "Even if there is no chance of bringing together our people under one administrative unit, winning the hearts and minds are paramount".
